Sarah– real, true, and shy

I feel sad to be with autism, but I am a real and true person inside. Really looking forward to quitting my silence with this blog that gives me a loud voice. With my typing I can reach out to you with thoughts, hopes and friendship.

Today Mom and I spent hours in our backyard swing reading, drinking iced tea, and listening to birds. It was a peaceful time. It really felt great reading together because I love books.

With books I can be anyone or anything. There is nothing to stop me. I am free of autism and float far above my own world. No fear or doubts hold me. I can be a mischievous kid or a wise old man or a cute cat. Great to be outside my boring self.

Truth beckons me, though, and I do enter my own life. It is a good life. I am  happy mostly. I am Sarah, your new friend with autism who types to speak. And I am also shy.

Hi Sarah. I love to read also. I think I’ll sit outside tomorrow and listen to the birds while I read…I don’t have a swing, but maybe I’ll get one soon. Hope you have a great day. <3

Oh and I love iced tea, too. It’s all I drink.

      Dear Lee,
It’s great to learn and relax at the same time. Do you have a shade tree? If not, the clouds will cover you nicely.
      Sarah.

Sarah, you have opened a whole world! So may people (including me) did not know that there was a ‘real and true person’ inside people with autism. The world will forever be grateful to you for enlightening us!

      Thanks, Debbie.
We are real people whose bodies simply work differently.
My body doesn’t usually do what I tell it.
I hope we keep in touch,
      Sarah.

Hi Sarah! You have grown up to be a wonderful person. You were in my class when you were very young. I know your mom and dad. I knew your dad when I was younger. My family used to spend part of Christmas Eve at his house. I enjoy reading, too!

      Thanks.
My dad is very silly. Was he a funny guy when young?
      What books are your favorites?
      Sarah.

    Hi Sarah!

This is such a great idea for all of us to be able to communicate with you.

A great time of fun in Mr. Krantz’s pool! You were great to help me.
I hope you will keep visiting my blog. I plan to create a new, exotic garden here.
Sarah, your old student and friend.

I feel the same way when I read books. I can go anywhere and be anyone. I read lots of books to my students with autism. I know they are thinking and learning, even though they cannot speak their thoughts. I want them to hear words and stories and learn how sentences go together so they may be able to write their thoughts one day, like you do. What are your favorite books?

I love poetry by Robert Frost. Reading about survival is also what I enjoy, especially Jack London’s more exciting stories. A time for me to relax is reading “Anne of Green Gables” who makes me laugh inside. I hope readers will choose my next book to learn more about going to school with autism. It will be coming out soon and is titled “Paul and His Beast.”
