Getting understanding

“To be autistic is a place where you live away from what is normal. You are inside a lot of confusion with loud voices and lights and shadows dancing. Smells are intense and your body does not respond to your directions. I plan things, but often I cannot carry out my plans. Pleased Mom and my friends understand and do not get disappointed. I feel sorry, though. Pleased, pleased, pleased to be loved and respected.
Plan to keep trying. Plan to please others by getting understanding through my writing. Power with typed words.”

I just found your blog today. Thank you so much, Sarah, for sharing your writing with the world. You have given me a glimpse of what it is like to be my child who has autism. They are 15-years-old. They have been struggling lately, but it’s hard for them to explain what is going on inside them,. We’ve both been frustrated. I hope you will continue to share on this blog so others without autism can learn… well, so we can learn how to love people with autism better by being the moms and dads and siblings and friends they need. The understanding you are sharing here is wonderful and valuable!! Thanks again, and God bless you!
