Autism: What would I look for in a “cure”?

A nice Facebook friend asked:

“What would a ‘cure’ look like to you? (I’m asking with sincere love and curiosity.)”

My response:

With my wish for a cure would come a new sounding voice that will respond perfectly to my directions and not repeat other phrases that are stuck inside, tucked away from years ago. Nor would I make weird noises that startle people and cause them to stare. I would tell my body what and when to move, not getting stuck or being impulsive and making people angry. I would then be a real person who is accepted and not a mistake to be corrected. A wish come true. A fairy tale ending. A true person who is respected and welcomed.
